INDIANAPOLIS — On Friday, the Indiana Fever announced the appointment of Stephanie White as their new head coach, placing her in charge of a squad that includes WNBA Rookie of the Year, Caitlin Clark.
White has a notable coaching background, having recently concluded a two-year tenure with the Connecticut Sun before parting ways with the team just earlier this week. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated strong leadership and expertise in guiding basketball teams.
Prior to her stint with the Sun, White was involved with the Fever’s coaching staff from 2011 to 2016, where she eventually assumed the role of head coach during the last two seasons of her tenure. This experience provides her with a solid foundation as she returns to the Fever organization in a more prominent role.
She takes over from Christie Sides, who coached the Fever to a balanced 20-20 record last season and secured the franchise’s first playoff appearance since 2016. However, despite this success, the Fever decided to release Sides, who had been with the team for two seasons, just last Sunday.
With this hiring, Indiana becomes the first team to fill one of the seven head coaching vacancies currently present in the league. White’s leadership will be pivotal as the Fever look to build on their recent accomplishments and push for further success in the upcoming season.
