BELGRADE, Serbia — A tragic incident occurred on Friday when a concrete roof above the entrance of a railway station in Novi Sad, a city in northern Serbia, came crashing down, resulting in the deaths of at least eight individuals.

The country’s Interior Minister, Ivica Dacic, reported that in addition to the fatalities, at least four others have been taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Rescue teams are still actively working at the scene and have managed to establish communication with two individuals who remain trapped beneath the collapsed concrete.

Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the downtown station, where ambulances and other first responders carried out their operations. Heavy machinery, including bulldozers, has been employed to clear the rubble in hopes of finding more survivors.

Footage captured by surveillance cameras revealed the moments leading up to the disaster, showing people interacting in the area and seated on benches just before the structure unexpectedly fell. It is noteworthy that the building had undergone recent renovations, raising concerns regarding the safety and structural integrity of the venue.
