TORONTO — On Thursday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs clinched a decisive 4-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken, led by William Nylander’s impressive two-goal performance and Joseph Woll’s robust 24-save effort in goal.

Auston Matthews contributed significantly with an assist and capped the game with a bank-shot empty-net goal, while his teammate Matthews Knies also added to the score sheet, bolstering Toronto’s record to 6-4-1 for the season.
Eeli Tolvanen managed to find the net for Seattle (5-5-1), and Joey Daccord was credited with 25 saves in the contest.
The game ignited late in the first period when Knies scored, giving the Maple Leafs an early lead. Nylander followed suit in the second period by netting two goals, showcasing his offensive prowess.
Tolvanen did manage to break Woll’s chance for a shutout with just 3:28 remaining in the game, scoring while Daccord was pulled for an extra attacker.
In terms of injury impacts, Seattle was already without defenseman Vince Dunn due to an upper-body issue, and they were further hampered when Brandon Montour left the game to attend the birth of his second child.
For the Maple Leafs, Knies is on a scoring streak, as this marks his third consecutive game with a goal, bringing his season total to six. Nylander currently leads the team with eight goals.
A pivotal moment in the game occurred when the Kraken faced a challenging situation, icing the puck with under 10 seconds remaining in the first period while the game was still tied. Matthews expertly seized control during the following faceoff, setting up Mitch Marner, who in turn assisted Knies for an elegant goal.
In a notable statistic, John Tavares achieved a significant milestone by becoming one of only five players in the past 50 years for the Maple Leafs aged 34 or older who have recorded ten or more points in their first ten games of the season, as he assisted on Nylander’s opening goal.
Looking ahead, the Kraken will face their second game of five in a row on the road as they head to Ottawa on Saturday evening. Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs will kick off a two-game road trip as they travel to face the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.
