BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Caden Veltkamp threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns as Western Kentucky secured a decisive 31-14 victory over Kennesaw State on Wednesday night.
With this win, Western Kentucky improved to a 6-2 overall record and remains undefeated at 4-0 in Conference USA, marking their sixth consecutive season of bowl eligibility under head coach Tyson Helton. This is the first time since 2015 that the Hilltoppers have been 4-0 in conference play, a season in which they finished with a perfect record at Houchens-Smith Stadium, including a win in the Conference USA championship game.
Veltkamp has demonstrated consistency, throwing at least three touchdown passes in three straight games. Against Kennesaw State, he completed 17 of 22 passes and did not throw any interceptions, showcasing his efficiency.
Defensively, Western Kentucky has proven to be a formidable opponent since their defeat against Alabama, allowing fewer than 16 points per game over their last seven outings. Remarkably, they have not permitted more than 21 points in any game during this stretch.
On the opposing side, Kennesaw State struggled as quarterback Davis Bryson completed 13 of 26 attempts for 96 yards, including one interception. Kennesaw State, now at 1-7 with a 1-3 record in conference play, did secure their inaugural win as an FBS program last week when they defeated previously unbeaten Liberty with a close score of 27-24.
