MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — As the college football landscape unfolds this season, an impressive eight teams have managed to maintain their unbeaten statuses as November approaches, a rarity given historical trends. In past years, particularly over the last decade, it has been uncommon to find any unbeaten teams entering this late stage of the season.
Among the current unbeatens are No. 1 Oregon (8-0), No. 3 Penn State (7-0), No. 5 Miami (8-0), No. 9 BYU (8-0), No. 11 Iowa State (7-0), No. 13 Indiana (8-0), No. 18 Pitt (7-0), and No. 21 Army (7-0). Miami’s running back Mark Fletcher Jr. expressed excitement following the team’s recent victory over Florida State, stating, “It can get real special. We’ve just got to keep attacking, go 1-0 every single week. On to the next.”
The unbeaten records of schools like Oregon, Penn State, and Miami may not spark surprise; however, the performances of the other teams on this list could raise eyebrows. Notably, five of these teams were left unranked in the preseason AP Top 25, including Pitt, BYU, and Indiana, which were not expected to excel in the upper tier of their respective conferences based on early rankings.
After Indiana’s triumph over Washington, offensive lineman Mike Katic expressed pride in the program’s turnaround. “It means everything. I’m so proud of this team and these coaches for breaking through and getting Indiana football back on top,” he said. Indiana’s last undefeated season headed into November was in 1967, illustrating a long and challenging journey until now, although Iowa State’s streak goes even further back—to World War II. The last time Iowa State was unbeaten and unblemished at this point was 1938.
Iowa State’s coach, Matt Campbell, reflects on the character of his team, expressing that he admires their growth and leadership. The Cyclones managed to rally and secure a win against UCF on October 19, showcasing their resilience.
Looking ahead, here’s the outlook for each of the eight unbeaten teams:
**No. 1 Oregon**
The Ducks last entered November unbeaten in 2013. They still have games against Michigan, Maryland, Wisconsin, and Washington remaining on their schedule. They were ranked third in the AP poll beforehand and are positioned second in the Big Ten. Despite having some long travel dates, there are no ranked opponents left in their schedule.
**No. 3 Penn State**
The Nittany Lions last found themselves in this situation in 2019. The upcoming weeks will see them face No. 4 Ohio State, followed by games against Washington, Purdue, Minnesota, and Maryland. They were initially forecasted to be eighth in the AP poll and third in the Big Ten.
**No. 5 Miami**

**No. 13 Indiana**
Indiana finds itself in this rare situation for the first time since 1967, with their next matches against Michigan State, Michigan, No. 4 Ohio State, and Purdue. They were unranked and projected to be seventeenth in the Big Ten.
**No. 18 Pitt**
Pitt’s last unbeaten November was in 1982. Their remaining games include No. 20 SMU, Virginia, No. 11 Clemson, Louisville, and Boston College. They began the season unranked and were placed thirteenth in the ACC.
**No. 21 Army**
Last seen unbeaten in 1996, Army’s upcoming matchups include Air Force, North Texas, No. 8 Notre Dame, UTSA, and Navy. They were unranked prior to the season and fifth in the American Athletic Conference. With their offense on a scoring spree, they appear to be in a promising position.
As these teams navigate through the remaining weeks of the season, their journeys will be closely monitored in hopes of maintaining their impressive records and achieving their respective goals.
