In a strong performance on Sunday, the New Jersey Devils triumphed over the Anaheim Ducks with a score of 6-2. Stefan Noesen was a standout player, netting two goals during the second period, while goaltender Jacob Markstrom recorded 24 saves to secure the win for the Devils.
The scoring began with Brock McGinn from Anaheim putting the Ducks on the board in the first period. However, just 1:15 into the second period, Jack Hughes evened the game at one goal each. Noesen then scored his first of the night at 4:42, giving New Jersey a 2-1 lead. Later in the same period, he added a second goal on a power play with just 2:37 left, extending the lead. The excitement continued for the Devils as Paul Cotter found the back of the net with only 1:11 remaining in the second, making the score 4-1 going into the third.
Early in the final period, Nico Hischier, leading the team with nine goals this season, scored to further extend the Devils’ lead to 5-1. Erik Haula capped off the evening’s scoring with New Jersey’s sixth goal just before the end of the game. Ryan Strome managed to add a second goal for the Ducks in the third period, while Anaheim’s James Reimer made 28 saves throughout the matchup.
This victory marked the second win in six games at the Devils’ home arena, the Prudential Center, this season. The Devils previously found success against Buffalo during their overseas games in Prague, though those were designated as home games for New Jersey. Conversely, the Ducks have struggled, losing three of their last four games after starting the season with an initial record of 2-1-1.
One of the pivotal moments of the game was Noesen’s goal that broke the tie, allowing New Jersey to maintain the lead for the remainder of the match. The seasoned forward has now tallied five goals this season, contributing significantly to the team’s overall success. Notably, Jonas Siegenthaler, Dougie Hamilton, and Dawson Mercer each recorded two assists in the game, while Jesper Bratt has continued his impressive streak, providing assists in five consecutive games.
Looking ahead, the Devils are set to face the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday, kicking off a three-game road trip in Western Canada. Meanwhile, the Ducks will seek to rebound when they visit the New York Islanders on Tuesday.
