CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — In a dominant performance during homecoming, the Chattanooga Mocs secured their fourth consecutive win with a score of 31-10 against the winless VMI Keydets on Saturday. Reggie Davis showcased his skills with 131 rushing yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Chase Artopoeus contributed significantly with two rushing touchdowns.
The Mocs’ scoring began with Artopoeus making a 17-yard dash straight through the middle of the defense. He further extended the lead shortly before halftime with a 23-yard run to the right, giving Chattanooga a 14-10 advantage at the break.
With this victory, the Mocs improved to a 5-3 record overall and 4-1 in the Southern Conference. Historical context shows that this is their first five-game winning streak since they finished the 2017 season strong and opened the 2018 campaign with four wins. Chattanooga displayed their control of the game in the third quarter, holding VMI to a mere 17 yards and just one first down. Davis found the end zone again with a short 2-yard run, while Journey Wyche followed it up with a 1-yard touchdown run to commence the fourth quarter. These two scoring drives consumed over 12 minutes of game time, stretching the lead to 27-10.
On the day, Artopoeus accounted for 82 of the Mocs’ 285 rushing yards, completing half of his 26 passing attempts for a total of 114 yards. Wyche supported the ground game with an impressive 64 yards rushing. For VMI, quarterback Brady Hammonds had a mixed day, completing 13 of 22 passes for 134 yards and connecting with Egypt Nelson for a 26-yard touchdown, though he also threw an interception.
