COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Board of Trustees at South Carolina has provisionally greenlit plans for substantial renovations to Williams-Brice Stadium, which could see the number of luxury suites rise from 18 to approximately 90.
This decision enables the university to engage an architectural firm to begin designing the enhancements. According to the athletic director, Ray Tanner, construction is anticipated to commence following the conclusion of the 2025 football season and should be completed prior to the start of the 2027 season.
There are currently no intentions to reschedule or relocate any games during the construction phase. The school has not disclosed the projected costs for the renovations. However, they indicated that funding would be sourced from a combination of capital gifts, suite sales, premium seating transactions, and other related revenue streams.
Tanner, who will transition to a new position as the university looks for his successor as Athletic Director, mentioned that the stadium’s current capacity of 77,559 will likely decrease by a few thousand once the renovations are finalized. The addition of luxury and club seating in 2020 had already reduced the stadium’s capacity from 82,500 to its existing numbers.
