A significant outbreak of E. coli connected to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders has been reported, affecting at least 75 individuals across 13 states, according to health officials.
As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 22 people have been hospitalized due to the illness. In addition, two individuals have developed serious complications related to kidney disease, and one person has tragically lost their life.
Currently, the source of this outbreak remains undetermined as stated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. However, investigators are concentrating their efforts on slivered onions served on the burgers, along with the beef patties.
In response to the situation, McDonald’s has indicated that the yellow onions used in their Quarter Pounders and supplied by a California-based grower, Taylor Farms, have been recalled due to potential E. coli contamination. Following the announcement of the outbreak, McDonald’s took proactive measures by removing the affected burger from its menus across several states.
This public health emergency underscores the ongoing challenges posed by foodborne illnesses and the importance of thorough safety measures in food production and supply chains. Customers are encouraged to stay informed and vigilant about food safety practices.
