ALLEN PARK, Mich. — On Thursday, wide receiver Jameson Williams of the Detroit Lions confirmed that he will accept a two-game suspension imposed by the NFL due to a breach of the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Williams indicated earlier this week that he had “no choice but to take it on the chin” regarding the news of the suspension. In a statement released through his agent, Williams shared that he was informed of the suspension earlier this week, which he described as completely unexpected.

“The news came as a complete surprise that I am still trying to understand,” Williams expressed.

“I don’t take supplements or vitamins, and I exercise extreme caution even with over-the-counter medications. I have never intentionally taken anything to gain an unfair advantage. I recognize that I hold full responsibility for what goes into my body, and I must take accountability in this situation.”

As a result of this suspension, Williams will be sidelined for the Lions’ upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans (1-5) this Sunday, as well as a November 3 contest against the Green Bay Packers, a key rival in the NFC North, as the Lions currently hold a 5-1 record.

This season has seen Williams emerging as a standout player, following his previous four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s gambling regulations last year.

He has tallied 17 receptions for 361 yards and three touchdowns so far. In contrast, during the last season, he accumulated 24 catches for 354 yards and two touchdowns over 12 games. He made a comeback from knee surgery two years ago and participated in six games, including a notable 41-yard touchdown catch.

At just 23 years old, Williams distinguishes himself as the first player in Detroit’s history to achieve all six of his initial receiving touchdowns from distances exceeding 30 yards.

The Lions notably traded up to select the former Alabama star with the 12th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, demonstrating their commitment to his development. Despite expectations that he would miss a significant portion of his rookie season due to a knee injury, the franchise has consistently supported him during his prior suspension and the current issue of his suspension.
