MIAMI — The National Hurricane Center has reported the emergence of Hurricane Oscar situated off the Bahamian coast.
Oscar, which has been classified by meteorologists as a “tiny” hurricane, developed on Saturday.
In light of the storm’s potential risks, the Bahamian government has issued a hurricane warning for the Turks and Caicos Islands as well as the southeastern regions of the Bahamas. Additionally, the government of Cuba has declared a hurricane watch for the provinces of Guantanamo, Holguin, and Las Tunas.
The hurricane boasts maximum sustained winds reaching 80 mph (130 kph), with even stronger gusts reported. Currently, the storm’s center is approximately 165 miles (260 kilometers) east-southeast of the southeastern Bahamas and around 470 miles (755 kilometers) east of Camaguey, Cuba.
Earlier in the day, Tropical Storm Nadine emerged off the southern Caribbean coast of Mexico and is advancing inland into Belize. Parts of Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula are currently experiencing heavy rainfall and conditions associated with tropical storms.
A tropical storm warning is active for Belize City and the stretch from Belize to Cancun, Mexico, which also includes the island of Cozumel.
