GLASGOW, Scotland — Alex Ferguson made a surprise appearance to support his former team, Aberdeen, on Saturday. His visit came shortly after it was announced that his esteemed position as Manchester United’s global ambassador would conclude.
Ferguson, who boasts a remarkable legacy with 28 major trophies during his tenure as Manchester United’s manager, has held the ambassadorial role since he stepped down in 2013. This position, worth millions, will be terminated at the end of the current season due to budgetary constraints.
Although Ferguson has often been a regular presence at Manchester United matches since retiring, he had a previous commitment that kept him from attending the game against Brentford at Old Trafford. Instead, he was spotted among the crowd at Celtic Park in Glasgow, where Celtic was set to face Aberdeen in a Scottish league match.
During his illustrious career, Ferguson guided Aberdeen to 10 major trophies before he moved to Manchester United in 1986. This season, Aberdeen has been in impressive form, winning all of their first 13 games leading up to their clash with Celtic.
Their undefeated streak came to a halt on Saturday; however, Aberdeen managed to earn an admirable 2-2 draw against the reigning Scottish champions after overcoming a 2-0 deficit.
