Actor and activist Jane Fonda is set to receive the SAG Life Achievement Award, adding yet another prestigious honor to her extensive list of accolades. At 86 years old, Fonda will be celebrated at the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards scheduled for February, as announced by the guild on Thursday.

Expressing her gratitude, Fonda stated that she felt “deeply honored and humbled” by the recognition from her peers. “Having devoted almost my entire life to this industry, receiving an honor from fellow actors is unparalleled,” she remarked.

With a career spanning over six decades, Fonda’s achievements include two Academy Awards for her performances in “Klute” and “Coming Home,” alongside two BAFTA Awards, an Emmy, and seven Golden Globes. Known as a passionate advocate, she made her mark in activism during the anti-war movements of the 1960s and 70s, and has since committed her platform to champion issues such as gender equality, civil rights, and environmental sustainability. Notably, on her 85th birthday, she raised $1 million for a Georgia-based non-profit focused on teaching children about making healthy life choices.

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher described Fonda as a “trailblazer,” emphasizing that the recognition honors not only her artistic contributions but also her significant legacy in activism and empowerment.

Jane Fonda, born on December 21, 1937, in New York City, is the daughter of late actor Henry Fonda and socialite Frances Seymour Brokaw, who tragically passed away at age 42 when Jane was just 12. Her brother, Peter Fonda, an Oscar-nominated actor and screenwriter, passed away in 2019. Fonda’s remarkable journey — encompassing her family, career, relationships, and activism — is explored in the 2018 documentary series “Jane Fonda in Five Acts,” available for streaming on MAX.

The SAG Life Achievement Award is a distinguished recognition determined by a SAG-AFTRA committee, acknowledging an actor who exemplifies the “finest ideals” within the profession. The 31st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards is slated to be broadcast live on Netflix on February 23 at 8 p.m. ET.
