Suspect in hit-and-run that harmed 3 nurses in Philadelphia turns himself in

PHILADELPHIA — A man suspected of colliding with three nurses who were attending to a gunshot victim outside a hospital in Philadelphia has voluntarily surrendered to the authorities, according to police updates on Wednesday.

The suspect, 20-year-old Jaadir Goodwyn from Philadelphia, was identified by law enforcement as the individual responsible for the incident, which happened last Saturday. He is now facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a vehicle and reckless endangerment.

The incident unfolded around 4:30 a.m. when Goodwyn drove a silver Jeep Cherokee to Penn Presbyterian Hospital’s ambulance bay to drop off the shooting victim. After leaving the victim, Goodwyn and two male companions entered the hospital to seek assistance. Meanwhile, three nurses, supported by hospital security personnel, rushed outside to provide aid to the injured individual.

However, upon noticing an approaching police vehicle, Goodwyn and his companions quickly returned to the Jeep and fled the scene, striking both the nurses and the gunshot victim in the process, as reported by police.

One of the nurses, a 36-year-old male, suffered significant injuries, including facial trauma and internal bleeding, and was confirmed to be in critical condition as of Wednesday. The other two nurses — a 51-year-old man with head and back trauma and a 37-year-old man who suffered leg injuries — were reported to be in stable condition while receiving medical care in the hospital. Additionally, the gunshot victim, aged 28, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Following the incident, the vehicle linked to the hit-and-run was discovered in Upper Darby, a nearby area. Authorities utilized evidence gathered from the Jeep, along with surveillance footage and statements from witnesses, to track down Goodwyn. As of Wednesday, it was unclear whether Goodwyn had legal representation available to provide any comments on his behalf.

It remains uncertain if authorities are actively seeking the two men who were accompanying Goodwyn or if they may also face legal repercussions stemming from this incident.
