WATFORD, England — The Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach Doug Pederson shared insights on Louis Rees-Zammit, the up-and-coming wide receiver who is gradually adjusting to American football after transitioning from rugby. Pederson expressed confidence that Rees-Zammit’s chance to shine in the NFL is imminent as he continues to refine his skills on the practice squad.
Rees-Zammit, hailing from Wales, made the leap to pursue a career in American football, joining the Jaguars’ practice squad after his stint with the Kansas City Chiefs. His journey with the Chiefs began earlier this year in March when he became part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program, but he was released before finding a place with the Jaguars.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Pederson emphasized the unpredictable nature of being on the practice squad, noting that players are always just one or two plays away from being called up to the active roster. He encouraged the young athlete to embrace his current position and continue to develop his game.
“The most important thing is to keep learning and to remain patient,” Pederson stated. “We appreciate his skill set which includes impressive speed, physical strength, and overall size. We are confident in his potential, and we believe that with time and effort, his opportunity will present itself.” The Jaguars are currently in London, gearing up for their game against the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, marking an exciting moment for the team and for Rees-Zammit as he settles into his new role in American football.
