MONTGOMERY, Ala. — In an impressive display, Kareem Keye passed for 326 yards and achieved four touchdowns, leading Alabama State to a decisive 54-17 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday.

Trailing 17-13 in the second quarter, Keye sparked a turnaround with an 84-yard touchdown throw to Robert McMinn, pulling ahead with just over six minutes remaining in the half. This touchdown shifted the momentum, allowing the Hornets (3-3, 2-1 Southwestern Athletic) to take control of the game and not look back.

Following a swift defensive stand that forced Mississippi Valley State to go three-and-out, Alabama State’s Maurice LaPierre blocked a punt by Alexander Davis. The ball was promptly recovered by Kyree Langley at the Delta Devils’ 26-yard line. On the next play, Jamarie Hostzclaw rushed for a touchdown, increasing Alabama State’s lead to 27-17.

Another quick drive from the Delta Devils ended with another three-and-out, allowing Keye to connect with McMinn again, this time on a 38-yard touchdown pass, further extending the advantage. Keye had initially set up this play with a significant 36-yard completion to Hostzclaw, demonstrating his well-rounded skills as a quarterback.

McMinn concluded the day with two catches, both resulting in touchdowns, and a total of 122 receiving yards.

Mississippi Valley State started strong with Ty’Jarian Williams, who opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run, putting the Delta Devils ahead 7-0. Williams then threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jaxson Davis just a few minutes later, extending the early lead to 14-0 with 11:20 still left in the first quarter.

The Hornets have shown a dominant streak in their recent matchups against the Delta Devils, having secured victories in the last nine encounters held in Montgomery. Since the opening of ASU Stadium in 2012, Alabama State remains undefeated at 5-0 against MVSU.
