YPSILANTI, Mich. — In an impressive display of offense, Brett Gabbert led Miami of Ohio to victory with four touchdown passes as they topped Eastern Michigan 38-14 on Saturday. The RedHawks put together a strong fourth quarter, scoring 17 points to solidify their win.
After entering the final period with a 21-14 lead, Miami jumped ahead with Gabbert’s 24-yard pass to Cole Weaver for a touchdown. This was followed by a 44-yard field goal from Dom Dzioban and a 44-yard rushing touchdown by Jordan Brunson. These plays accounted for a significant 191 yards of offense, which was nearly half of Miami’s total of 421 yards for the game, completed with only 16 first downs.
Gabbert had an efficient day, completing 10 out of 13 passes for a total of 222 yards, which resulted in an impressive average of 17 yards per attempt and 22 yards per completion. Among Miami’s offensive stars, Keyon Mozee stood out with 100 rushing yards, while Reggie Virgil contributed to the passing game with three catches for 113 yards, including a striking 75-yard touchdown on the opening play of the game.
On the defensive side, Miami’s Eli Blakey led with 18 total tackles, eight of which were solo, while Corban Hondru recorded 16 tackles with five solo efforts. Eastern Michigan’s scores came from quarterback Cole Snyder and Delbert Mimms III, who each managed 1-yard rushing touchdowns.
With this performance, Miami showcased their capability to dominate on both offense and defense, setting the stage for future matchups in the season.
