BROOKINGS, S.D. — In an impressive display, the top-ranked FCS team, South Dakota State, triumphed over Youngstown State with a dominant score of 63-13 on Saturday. Chase Mason was a standout performer, amassing 161 rushing yards along with two lengthy touchdown runs, significantly contributing to the team’s success.

The Jackrabbits (5-1, 2-0) have now achieved an extraordinary 32 consecutive victories against FCS competitors, and with their 19th straight win in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, they have matched the league record previously set by North Dakota State from 2017 to 2020.

The game kicked off with a bang as Angel Johnson returned the opening kickoff 99 yards, placing the Jackrabbits on the scoreboard immediately. Shortly after, Mason bolstered the lead with a 38-yard touchdown run. He added a further highlight to the first half with a 48-yard touchdown, extending the score to 35-3 just before halftime.

Quarterback Mark Gronowski also had a solid performance, passing for 127 yards, throwing two touchdown passes, and adding another 53 rushing yards along with a touchdown of his own. The Jackrabbits displayed overwhelming offense, scoring on their first seven genuine possessions and achieving points on 8 out of 9 opportunities throughout the game, with their only punt occurring in the final two minutes of play.

For Youngstown State (2-5, 1-2), Beau Brungard put forth a commendable effort, completing 169 passing yards with one interception, and he added 59 rushing yards along with one touchdown.
