Marta’s eighth goal of the season helped secure a 2-0 victory for the Orlando Pride in their match against the Washington Spirit, keeping the Pride undefeated so far in the National Women’s Soccer League season. The game was held at Inter&Co Stadium in front of enthusiastic home fans, where the Pride (17-0-6) clinched the NWSL Shield, recognizing them as the team with the best record this season. This prestigious award was particularly special as it marked Orlando’s first trophy in club history, with the shield being designed by luxury jeweler Tiffany & Co.

The momentum shifted in favor of the Pride when Marta, at 38 years old, converted a penalty kick in the 57th minute after Barbra Banda was brought down in the box. Defender Kylie Strom expressed her excitement, emphasizing the team’s perseverance and the significance of Marta’s goal in securing the win.

As the rain poured down in the 73rd minute, Adriana intercepted a pass and fired a shot from distance that deflected heavily and found the back of the net at the near post. Despite missing key starters like Trinity Rodman and Ouleymata Sarr, the Spirit (15-6-2) faced a challenging match with Andi Sullivan needing to be stretchered off right before the end of the second half.

Although the Spirit ended the weekend in second place after the loss, the Pride continues their remarkable unbeaten streak, now at 24 games, a league record that extends back to the previous season. Their staunch defense has only conceded 13 goals in 23 games, maintaining a clean sheet after the 75th minute in every game.

Goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse played a vital role in securing the shutout against the Spirit, making five crucial saves and achieving her NWSL-record 13th shutout of the season. Defender Kylie Strom credited the entire team for their defensive prowess, emphasizing their resilience and ability to withstand pressure.

The Orlando Pride’s stellar performance and unwavering determination have solidified their position as a force to be reckoned with in the NWSL this season, setting the stage for an exciting continuation of their success.
