Freshman quarterbacks Nick Josifek and Jack Wagner showcased their skills as they each threw a touchdown pass to lead the Idaho Vandals to victory over Northern Arizona on Saturday in a highly anticipated FCS matchup. The game, featuring two top 25-ranked teams, witnessed an intense battle on the field.
Idaho secured the win by taking the lead and making it 13-7 during an exciting moment when Nate Bell rushed for a 13-yard touchdown with 11:20 remaining in the first half. This scoring drive spanned 75 yards over eight plays and consumed nearly 5 and a half minutes of game time.
The Vandals further solidified their lead by extending it to 23-10. Josifek connected with Jordan Dwyer on a 23-yard touchdown pass just 2:01 before halftime. Cameron Pope also contributed to the scoreboard with a successful 40-yard field goal in the third quarter.
Northern Arizona’s P.J. London managed to narrow the gap to 23-17 with a 2-yard rushing touchdown late in the game, adding tension to the final moments of the matchup. Despite the Lumberjacks’ defensive efforts forcing a three-and-out, they were unable to capitalize on their last possession, falling short after a nine-play, 27-yard drive that concluded in a turnover on downs.
The No. 10 ranked Idaho improved its record to 4-2, 1-1 in the Big Sky conference, while the 25th-ranked Northern Arizona Lumberjacks dropped to 3-3, 1-1 in conference play.
The Idaho Vandals celebrated their homecoming game with special guest NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Kramer, who served as the honorary captain and participated in the pre-game coin toss at midfield, adding to the excitement of the event.
