Columbus Crew emerged victorious with a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday night in a Major League Soccer match held in Columbus, Ohio. Juan “Cucho” Hernández was the star of the game, scoring a goal in each half. Dylan Chambost played a significant role as well, registering his first two career assists on Hernández’s goals. The victory improved Columbus’s record to 17-6-9.
The first goal of the game came early on in the 4th minute when Hernández capitalized on a pass from Chambost to give Columbus the lead. Philadelphia responded in the 25th minute with an unassisted goal by Nathan Harriel, leveling the score temporarily.
Before halftime, Columbus regained the lead with a 41st-minute goal by defender Mohamed Farsi, who scored his fourth goal of the season. Hernández extended Columbus’s lead with his career-best 19th goal of the season in the 76th minute, further solidifying their position in the match.
Despite a late goal by Jack McGlynn for the Union in the 78th minute, the Columbus Crew managed to hold on to their lead until the final whistle. Patrick Schulte, the goalkeeper for Columbus, made four crucial saves to help secure the win, while Philadelphia’s goalkeeper Andrew Blake totaled seven saves during the match.
Looking ahead, Columbus Crew is set to play the New England Revolution at home next Saturday before traveling to face the New York Red Bulls on October 19 for Decision Day. On the other hand, Philadelphia Union is currently on a break until they host FC Cincinnati on October 19 for their final game of the regular season, with a potential postseason berth at stake for the Union.
