New York Yankees’ first baseman, Anthony Rizzo, had to leave the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday after being hit on the right hand in the seventh inning. The incident occurred when Rizzo was hit on the bottom of his hand by a 1-2 slider from Ryan Borucki. Despite wincing in pain, Rizzo initially remained in the game after being assessed by head athletic trainer Tim Lentych.

Following the Yankees’ turn at bat in the seventh inning, Oswaldo Cabrera shifted from shortstop to first base, and Anthony Volpe took over at shortstop for Rizzo. This substitution was made in light of Rizzo’s injury and the need for his immediate medical attention.

This unfortunate event comes after Rizzo had missed 62 games earlier in the season due to a fractured right forearm sustained from a collision with Red Sox reliever Brennan Bernardino on June 16 at Fenway Park. Despite the setback, Rizzo has maintained a decent performance this season, currently holding a batting average of .228 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs in 92 games. Impressively, he has been hitting .380 (8 for 21) since coming back from the injured list on September 1.

The Yankees will likely be monitoring Rizzo’s condition closely and providing updates on his status as more information becomes available.
