The Bob Marley Legacy Tour, featuring his five sons Ziggy, Stephen, Julian, Ky-Mani, and Damian, has embarked on a multi-city journey to spread their late father’s message of harmony and peace through music. This marks the first time in two decades that the siblings have united for a tour, performing approximately 30 of Bob Marley’s iconic songs such as “No Woman, No Cry,” “Could You Be Loved,” and “Three Little Birds.” The tour commenced in Vancouver and will culminate in Miami in early October.
Ziggy Marley expressed the significance of this tour, highlighting the importance of paying tribute to their father’s enduring legacy, especially as he would have turned 80 in February 2025. The brothers, who have their own unique reggae styles, have seamlessly blended their sounds for this tour, showcasing a deep musical connection that has been cultivated through years of collaboration. Julian Marley emphasized the universal appeal of Bob Marley’s message, stating that it transcends boundaries and resonates with people worldwide.
Bob Marley, who rose to fame from the impoverished neighborhood of Trench Town in Kingston, Jamaica, became a global icon in the 1970s with his socially conscious lyrics promoting justice and unity before his untimely death from cancer in 1981 at the age of 36. Despite his passing, Marley’s legacy continues to thrive through various projects such as an immersive exhibit in New York and the successful biopic “Bob Marley: One Love.”
In recognition of their contribution to music and their father’s legacy, the Marley Brothers were honored with a proclamation declaring September 22 as “Marley Brothers Day” in the Queens borough of New York. Each of Bob Marley’s sons has made significant strides in their music careers, with Julian winning his first Grammy in February, Ziggy and Stephen securing eight Grammys each, Damian bagging five trophies, and Ky-Mani earning a nomination.
Stephen Marley, the curator of the tour’s setlist, underlined the importance of continuing their father’s message of positivity through their music. In addition to the tour, the brothers are planning to collaborate on a new album in the near future to further amplify Bob Marley’s timeless message of love and unity. Stephen emphasized that amidst the present challenges, the profound message within their music remains essential and powerful, echoing their father’s enduring impact on spreading positivity and unity through their art.
