In Lubbock, Texas, Behren Morton led Texas Tech to a 30-22 victory over Arizona State in the Sun Devils’ Big 12 Conference debut. Morton threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Johncarlos Miller II and Josh Kelly for scores on the Red Raiders’ first two possessions. Jalin Conyers, a former ASU player, scored a 3-yard rushing touchdown on a direct snap in the second half.
Texas Tech, now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, also received field goals from Gino Garcia and Reese Burkhardt. Arizona State, with a 3-1 record overall and 0-1 in the conference, saw Cam Skattebo score two rushing touchdowns and Sam Leavitt add another one. Ian Hershey kicked a field goal for the Sun Devils.
Despite Skattebo’s strong performance, Tech’s Tahj Brooks had a notable game, rushing for 117 yards on 27 carries. The win marks a successful start for Texas Tech in the Big 12, as they aim for their first 2-0 conference start since 2013.
Looking ahead, Arizona State will have a week off before their first Big 12 home game against Kansas on October 5. Texas Tech is set to host Cincinnati on September 28.
