French authorities initiate inquiry into disappearance of two Congolese Paralympic athletes

French authorities in the Paris suburb of Bobigny are currently looking into the disappearance of two Paralympic athletes from Congo who participated in the recent Paris Games. The investigation was launched on September 7 following a report from the athletes’ delegation about their disappearance two days earlier. According to Le Parisien newspaper, shot putter Mireille Nganga and visually impaired sprinter Emmanuel Grace Mouambako, along with a third individual, went missing on September 5.

Officials reported that the athletes’ suitcases were also missing, but their passports were left behind with the Congolese delegation. An anonymous official with insights into the case shared this information, as they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. The Paralympic Committee of the Democratic Republic of Congo did not provide any details when reached out for comments.

Both Nganga and Mouambako, who carried the flag for Congo during the Paralympic Games’ opening ceremony, were not successful in their respective javelin and shot put events. Details about their whereabouts and the circumstances of their disappearance are still under investigation by French authorities in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
