Man possibly connected to Kentucky highway shootings that injured five being sought by authorities

Authorities in rural southeastern Kentucky are intensively searching for a man linked to the shooting of nine vehicles and injuring five people on Interstate 75. Despite not yet naming him as a suspect, officials identified 32-year-old Joseph A. Couch as a person of interest in the case. They are actively seeking him in a remote area north of London, where the incidents occurred.

Deputy Gilbert Acciardo from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office stated that they are determined to locate the individual responsible. Couch, described as white, is considered armed and dangerous, prompting a caution to the public not to approach him if spotted. Law enforcement received reports of gunfire on Saturday evening near exit 49, leading to the discovery of multiple vehicles struck by bullets and five individuals wounded.

The wounded victims were reported to be in stable condition, with some sustaining severe injuries, including a person shot in the face. Residents in Laurel County were advised to remain vigilant as authorities extensively searched the wooded area near the highway. A drone from London Laurel Rescue squad was deployed to aid in the search effort, as state lawmakers urged caution and cooperation from the community during the investigation.

Law enforcement believes there was a lone shooter and ruled out road rage as a motive for the incident. A photo of Couch was released to the public, urging people to be on high alert. However, Acciardo emphasized that they had not confirmed Couch as the perpetrator. The area has been secured, with ongoing efforts to track down the shooter.

London Mayor Randall Weddle urged residents to stay indoors and report any suspicious activity. The situation remains fluid, with authorities closely monitoring developments. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear expressed solidarity with the affected individuals and ensured that support is being provided. Prayers were requested for all involved in the unsettling events.
