The United States equestrian team continued their successful run at the Paralympics in Paris, earning three more medals in dressage on Saturday. Fiona Howard and Rebecca Hart each secured their third gold medals of the Paris Games. Howard, a Paralympic debutant, claimed the Grade II individual freestyle gold, while veteran Hart clinched the gold in Grade III. Kate Shoemaker also contributed to the team’s success by winning a bronze in Grade IV. The competition features riders across five different grades, with Grade I being for the most severely impaired riders.
Howard and Hart, who had already won individual gold medals earlier in the week, were instrumental in helping the U.S. secure the team event victory on Friday.
In swimming, American athlete Jessica Long added to her impressive Paralympic medal collection by winning gold in the S8 100-meter butterfly event. Clocking in at 1 minute and 10.59 seconds at La Défense Arena, Long finished a second ahead of Viktoriia Ishchiulova, with Britain’s Alice Tai taking third place. This victory brought Long’s total Paralympic medal count to 31. The 32-year-old swimmer had also won the women’s 400 freestyle earlier in the week. Long’s Paralympic journey began at the age of 12 when she secured three gold medals at the 2004 Athens Games. The S8 category is designated for swimmers with limb absences, and Long is a double amputee.
