Alinghi unable to begin race due to mainsail problem in America’s Cup

In the latest America’s Cup racing event in Barcelona, Switzerland’s Alinghi Red Bull Racing faced a setback as they were unable to start one of their races due to a mainsail issue. This hindered their chances of progressing further in the competition. Despite their efforts, the crew could not rectify the problem in time for the race against Emirates Team New Zealand, resulting in a disqualification.

Alinghi Red Bull Racing also suffered a defeat in their second race against Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, bringing their overall standing to 0-4 at the midway point of the round-robin stage. Skipper Arnaud Psarofaghis acknowledged the team’s urgent need to secure points by winning races. He emphasized the importance of starting promptly to improve their position in the competition and expressed determination to address their shortcomings before it is too late.

During the initial phase of the competition, each team competes against the others twice, with a point awarded to the winner of each race. As the event progresses, the five challengers, including Alinghi, will be narrowed down to four for the semifinals. Orient Express Racing Team, currently with a 1-3 record after losing to INEOS Britannia, is slightly ahead of Alinghi in the standings.

The racing action is set to resume on Tuesday, providing Alinghi Red Bull Racing and the other teams with an opportunity to regroup and strive for better results in the upcoming races.
