Mbappé fails to score in Spanish league debut, Real Madrid settles for 1-1 draw at Mallorca

Defending champions Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by Mallorca in Kylian Mbappé’s first Spanish league appearance. Despite scoring in their previous match, Mbappé was unable to find the back of the net in this game. Madrid’s coach Carlo Ancelotti fielded the same lineup that secured a victory over Atalanta, with Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior, and Mbappé leading the attack. Rodrygo scored first for Madrid, but Mallorca equalized with Vedat Muriqi finding the net.
In a dramatic turn of events, Madrid’s Ferland Mendy received a red card in stoppage time for a harsh challenge on Muriqi. Among the spectators at the Son Moix Stadium was Rafael Nadal, who hails from Mallorca. In another surprising result, Real Sociedad, last season’s sixth-place finishers, suffered a 2-1 defeat at home against Rayo Vallecano, a team that fought against relegation in the previous campaign. Rayo’s Jorge de Frutos and Sergio Camello scored to secure the lead, with Sociedad only managing a late goal from Martín Zubimendi.
Barcelona secured a 2-1 victory over Valencia on Saturday, with Robert Lewandowski scoring twice in coach Hansi Flick’s Spanish league debut. Atletico Madrid is set to visit Villarreal on Monday.
