U.S. Air Force security guards at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland engaged in a gunfire exchange with an individual who started shooting at an entrance to the base early Saturday morning, as reported by base spokesperson Stefanie Antosh. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the guards fired back at a vehicle passing through the base entrance around 4:30 a.m. The details about the number of rounds fired, the shooters involved, and their motives remain unknown at this time, according to Antosh.
Antosh mentioned that there is uncertainty about what instigated the incident, stating, “We don’t know what, if anything, started it,” However, she emphasized that the event did not pose an active threat to the installation, and no ongoing threat to the base was detected. The entrance where the shooting occurred was shut down for several hours afterward, but the base itself was not placed on lockdown, clarified Antosh. San Antonio police also intervened in response to the shooting and aided in gathering evidence.
