While Taylor Swift has yet to officially endorse a candidate for the upcoming election, an insider from her management team revealed to US LIVE that the singer is likely to support Kamala Harris.
Harris entered the 2024 White House race later than expected after President Joe Biden announced in July that he would not seek reelection, following pressure from within his own party and major Democratic donors who expressed concerns over his age and mental acuity.
As the news cycle focuses on Harris’ impending showdown with former President Donald Trump—the GOP nominee—many Swifties have already publicly expressed their support for the Democratic candidate, with some urging Swift to do the same.
However, Taylor Swift’s endorsement for Kamala Harris has not yet materialized.
The insider close to her campaign stated: “She’s focused on finishing her tour first and doesn’t want to mix these matters. But once the tour concludes, she is expected to offer a prominent endorsement for Kamala Harris. Taylor has a great fondness for Harris and considers her a friend—she also has a strong dislike for Trump and fears his return to the presidency.”
Luana Ribeira, founder of Dauntless PR, commented that the excitement surrounding Harris as a presidential candidate is growing, and that social media buzz and celebrity endorsements are key to building an atmosphere of optimism and enthusiasm. Ribeira is confident that Swift’s endorsement is forthcoming.
“The trending hashtag #SwiftiesforHarris is a positive sign for Kamala, as we all know Taylor Swift fans are well-organized,” Ribeira told Newsweek. “While Taylor Swift hasn’t yet voiced her support for Kamala publicly, she did back the Biden-Harris campaign in 2020, so her endorsement is likely. The biggest advantage would be engaging people who might not otherwise vote.”
A TikTok account called @Swifties4Kamala was created soon after Biden endorsed Harris for the nomination. The account, which isn’t affiliated with Swift, describes itself as a “Coalition of Swifties mobilizing to get Dem candidates elected nationwide.” As of now, the account has over 104,800 followers and more than 465,000 likes.
“Swifties for Harris is a coalition of Taylor Swift fans committed to protecting American democracy by working together to help elect progressive candidates in local and national elections, including Vice President Kamala Harris as the next president,” one post from the account reads.
An X (formerly Twitter) account and an Instagram account with the same name were also launched, with the X account currently holding 58,100 followers and the Instagram account 37,600.
Ribeira further explained that celebrity endorsements are crucial because they are highly trusted and recognizable brands.
“If someone you admire thinks highly of someone else, you’re more likely to take notice than if you were just hearing facts and figures or a self-promotion. Celebrity endorsements are like the ultimate personal recommendation. If you needed a plumber, you’d ask friends for a recommendation. The majority of the U.S. population won’t personally know a presidential candidate, but if someone they admire endorses that candidate, it can significantly boost their opinion and make them pay attention to what the candidate stands for.”
Experts recently told Newsweek that Swift, a highly influential figure, is likely delaying her endorsement of Harris to ensure it has maximum impact at the polls this November.
Over the years, Swift has proven to be a political force. On September 19, National Voter Registration Day, she urged her followers to register on the nonprofit, nonpartisan website Vote.org in an Instagram post. According to the organization, Swift’s post led to a surge of over 35,000 registrations—an almost 25 percent increase from the same day the previous year.
Andrea Hailey, CEO of Vote.org, stated that the single-day surge in registrations was a “highly encouraging sign of voter enthusiasm,” especially noting a 115 percent spike in newly eligible 18-year-olds registering to vote compared to 2022.
In May, a poll conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies found that 22 percent of voters who supported Biden in the 2020 election said they would be more likely to vote for a GOP candidate if Swift endorsed them.
The survey, conducted among 1,500 eligible voters on May 1, showed a 9-point increase from January, when only 13 percent of Biden 2020 supporters said they would be more likely to vote for a Republican candidate endorsed by Swift.
While Swift has yet to comment on the latest developments in the presidential race, the expectation remains that she will back the Democratic ticket, given her support for Harris during the 2020 election cycle.
In August 2020, Swift responded “YES” to a post by Harris on X, in which Harris expressed her honor at being Biden’s running mate and determination to make him commander-in-chief.
In October 2020, Swift confirmed her vote for the Democrats by posting a photo of herself holding a plate of custom cookies decorated with the Biden/Harris campaign logo. She also shared that she had conducted an interview with V Magazine about her decision to vote for Biden.
“So apt that it’s come out on the night of the VP debate. Gonna be watching and supporting @KamalaHarris by yelling at the TV a lot. And I also have custom cookies,” she wrote in the caption.
