The Los Angeles Angels managed to break a three-game losing streak by rallying past the Atlanta Braves with a score of 3-2 on Friday night. Mickey Moniak’s go-ahead double in the sixth inning and Logan O’Hoppe’s tying homer in the fourth played crucial roles in the Angels’ victory.
Moniak, who had been struggling at 1 for 11 during the homestand, narrowly missed a home run and instead hit a double off the right-field wall to bring in Nolan Schanuel. O’Hoppe, on the other hand, ended an 0-for-29 slump with his homer in the fourth, which tied the game at 2.
Brock Burke, the third of six Angels pitchers, earned the win with 1 2/3 scoreless innings, while Ben Joyce secured his second save. Braves starter Spencer Schwellenbach gave up three runs on four hits and two walks in five-plus innings.
In the fourth inning, the Braves took a 2-0 lead, with Marcell Ozuna and Matt Olson reaching base before Sean Murphy and Jarred Kelenic drove in runs. However, the Angels fought back to tie the game, thanks to O’Hoppe’s homer driving in Schanuel.
In other news, Braves outfielder Jorge Soler missed the game due to a mild left hamstring strain, while Angels’ Anthony Rendon was removed from the game due to a bruised right elbow.
Up next, Braves’ Chris Sale and Angels’ Griffin Canning are set to face off in the next game. Sale leads the NL in wins and ERA, while Canning has had some struggles in recent starts.
