Dodgers overcome Cardinals as Betts and Kiermaier hit homers in 7-6 victory

Mookie Betts and Kevin Kiermaier hit home runs in the sixth inning, contributing to a five-run rally that led the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 7-6 victory over the struggling St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night. Justin Wrobleski secured his first major league win in his fifth career start after being called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City earlier that day. Wrobleski allowed four runs, including three home runs, and four hits in five innings, helping the NL West-leading Dodgers halt a two-game losing streak.

Evan Phillips and Joe Kelly each pitched a scoreless inning in relief, while Michael Kopech earned his 10th save of the season, his first with the Dodgers since being acquired from the Chicago White Sox last month. Betts started the sixth with his 12th homer, followed by Miguel Rojas’ RBI single that tied the game at 4. Kiermaier’s three-run homer then put the Dodgers in the lead.

On the other side, Miles Mikolas struggled for the Cardinals, giving up five runs in 5 2/3 innings. Mikolas, with just one win since June 22, allowed seven hits and struck out seven as the Cardinals suffered their fifth consecutive loss.
