Vice President Kamala Harris is dedicating attention to the issue of high food prices as she gears up for an economic policy speech in North Carolina. She plans to advocate for a federal restriction on price gouging in grocery products. Harris is particularly concerned about the increasing cost of meat, which she believes is a significant factor in the escalation of grocery bills.

Even though year-over-year inflation rates have decreased to the lowest level in over three years, many Americans are still grappling with elevated food prices, currently standing at 21% above the prices from three years ago. Former President Donald Trump has been critical of the Biden administration, often citing inflation and energy policies as shortcomings.

Harris is not only focusing on food prices but also on the costs of prescription drugs. She recently joined President Joe Biden in Maryland to announce initiatives that will bring down the prices of 10 of Medicare’s most expensive drugs, potentially saving hundreds or even thousands of dollars for consumers.

President Biden has also taken steps to address the issue of rising food costs. One of his actions includes establishing a “competition council” aimed at fostering greater competition in the meat industry to lower expenses, signaling a broader commitment from the administration to tackle inflation.
