A group of fans sitting in the right field bleachers of Yankee Stadium shouted “U-S-A! U-S-A!” while the Canadian national anthem, “O Canada,” played before the game between the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night. Despite the chanting, most of the 44,883 fans in attendance at the ballpark did not participate and instead remained silent during the anthem performed by Max Greenberg, a student at Dwight School in Manhattan.
The game’s start was delayed by 86 minutes due to rain, causing a late kickoff for the teams and the fans in the stands. It was an unexpected interruption for the spectators eagerly waiting for the game to begin.
