Encounter between Trump and ABC’s Rachel Scott at Black journalists’ event grabs attention

Former President Donald Trump faced intense questioning from ABC News correspondent Rachel Scott at a meeting of Black journalists, causing the session to become confrontational. Scott challenged Trump on his remarks about Black leaders, his support of the January 6, 2021, rioters, and diversity hiring. Trump repeatedly criticized Scott’s demeanor, labeling her as “very rude.”

The event, hosted by the National Association of Black Journalists, drew criticism from some members who objected to Trump’s presence but believed it was their duty as journalists to question him. Technical difficulties delayed the panel, which also included Fox News Channel’s Harris Faulkner and Semafor’s Kadia Goba.

Scott, a senior congressional reporter and campaign correspondent at ABC News, grilled Trump on his past statements about Black leaders and the treatment of minorities. Trump lashed out at Scott, accusing her of being disrespectful in her line of questioning.

During the session, Trump defended his record on Black Americans and claimed to be the best President for Black people since Abraham Lincoln. Scott challenged him on various statements, including his alleged support for those involved in the Capitol riot and his views on Vice President Kamala Harris.

The panel ended amid some confusion, with Scott cutting short questions from Faulkner. Trump later took to his Truth Social account to criticize the questions as “Rude and Nasty,” claiming victory in the exchange. Attendees, including student journalist Kelly Arrington, expressed disappointment in Trump’s responses to the tough questioning.

The session sparked discussions on social media, with some commending Scott for her tough interrogation while others accused her of setting up Trump. Despite the contentious atmosphere, the event highlighted the importance of holding public figures accountable for their statements and actions.
