New Jersey military base forest fire now 80% under control following overnight rainfall

Heavy rain overnight has assisted firefighters in gaining better control over a forest fire at a military bombing range in Bass River, New Jersey. The Warren Grove Air to Ground Range, utilized by the New Jersey Air National Guard, received around half an inch (1.3 centimeters) of rain overnight in the New Jersey Pinelands. This rainfall aided in increasing containment to 80%, according to fire officials on Wednesday. The fire has consumed 1,167 acres (472 hectares), or nearly 2 square miles (5.3 square kilometers), without posing a threat to any structures.

Despite the improved containment, fire crews are still active at the site, working towards complete extinguishment of the blaze. The Warren Grove Air to Ground Range had previously experienced a significant fire in 2007, which burned an extensive area of 26 square miles (67 square kilometers).
