7 firefighters injured in crash involving 2 fire tanker trucks responding to warehouse fire

Seven firefighters sustained injuries in a crash involving two tanker trucks while responding to a significant fire in York, Pennsylvania. The accident occurred just before 11 p.m. in Spring Garden Township, near a large warehouse fire in the city. The York New Salem Volunteer Fire Company reported on Facebook that five of its members were injured, with varying degrees of severity, but none were life-threatening.
Chief David Rittenhouse of the Laurel Fire Company No. 1 of Windsor mentioned that the two firefighters in their tanker were evaluated at WellSpan York Hospital and were released by 1 a.m. It was a challenging night for the New Salem company, and they requested thoughts and prayers for those involved in the accident.
According to the York Daily Record, the tankers were shuttling water to and from the warehouse fire since it was reported at 6:30 p.m. Broken glass and large hose lines were scattered around the site of the crash. Chief William Sleeger of the York city fire department told the York Dispatch that crews were still working on extinguishing hot spots at the warehouse, which was a large distribution center.
Sleeger mentioned that the warehouse, spanning over two blocks, suffered extensive damage despite the efforts of 19 fire companies. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
