Police report a break-in at the NYC mayor’s home where a Christmas ornament was taken.

A 20-year-old individual was apprehended after unlawfully entering Gracie Mansion, the residence of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and allegedly stealing a Christmas ornament during the early hours of New Year’s Day, law enforcement reported.

The break-in occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday when the suspect scaled a fence surrounding the property, which is situated in a park on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Authorities indicated that he accessed the second floor and was discovered in a bathroom mere moments after his entry into the building.

While being questioned at a nearby police precinct, the individual allegedly displayed a video to investigators showing him taking a Christmas ornament from a drawer within the mansion, as documented in a criminal complaint. In addition to the ornament, he returned several other unspecified items to the authorities.

Living just a few blocks away from the mayor’s residence, the suspect is set to appear for arraignment in a Manhattan court on Thursday.

A representative for Mayor Adams confirmed that he was not present at the home during the time of this incident, which unfolded in the early morning hours.
