New Jersey Senator Andy Kim joined local police on a drone patrol Thursday night, aiming to investigate a series of recent aerial sightings reported across the state. While some lights in the sky appeared to be drones, Kim stated that most sightings, upon “deeper analysis,” turned out to be planes.
Kim shared insights from his observations, including a video recorded at Round Valley Reservoir at 9:20 p.m., which showed a craft with white lights and red blinkers. Initially unidentified on a flight tracker, subsequent analysis revealed it to be a small plane, likely mistaken for a drone.
Despite these findings, Kim, who recently replaced Bob Menendez in the Senate, acknowledged that not all sightings were easily explained. “I don’t discount others that may have seen actual drone activity,” he said, emphasizing the need for more accurate tools and data for civilians reporting aerial phenomena.
The senator criticized the federal government for not adequately addressing public concerns about these sightings, stressing the importance of transparency. “We have a lot of distrust in politics and government right now. The public deserves to be informed,” Kim wrote on X.
Kim’s investigation highlights the challenges of distinguishing drones from other aerial activity and underscores the need for clearer communication from authorities.
