Early voting sees shift toward Trump, RNC co-chair says–amid record early votes of 31 million so far

Recent polling indicates a shift toward former President Donald Trump, with early voting numbers showing Republicans gaining ground in key battleground states.

RNC Co-Chair Lara Trump noted this swing represents a significant change from 2020, when questions about voter fraud and mail-in ballots were prominent among Trump supporters.

Now, Trump is actively encouraging early voting, and the numbers appear to reflect his base responding.

Over 32 Million Ballots Cast Early Nationwide

“This isn’t just a change from 2020; it’s a shift we’ve never seen before in early voting for Republicans,” Trump explained.

Traditionally, Democrats have dominated early in-person voting by a margin of 80 to 20, but this year, Republicans are either closing in or even surpassing Democrats in several battleground states.

With early voting open in all seven battleground states and over 36 others, more than 32 million Americans have already cast their ballots, according to data from the University of Florida’s Election Lab. Mail-in voting remains the most popular method, with Democrats leading in early returns across 25 states reporting party registration.

Record-Setting Early Voting in Key States

Voter turnout is reaching record levels in battleground states. In Georgia, where Biden narrowly won in 2020, over 25% of active voters have already voted, according to Secretary of State official Gabe Sterling. Meanwhile, North Carolina saw an unprecedented 353,000 voters on October 17, the first day of early voting, surpassing the previous record from 2020.
