Eight firefighters sustained injuries in a serious highway accident involving a fire truck in Southern California, as confirmed by authorities on Thursday. Chief Brian Fennessy from the Orange County Fire Authority reported that the truck flipped over on the California State Route 241 just north of Portola Hills. The truck was carrying a ground crew back after a 12-hour shift battling a massive wildfire in Orange County known as the Airport Fire. Chief Fennessy mentioned that a ladder on the road caused the truck to swerve, hit a guardrail, and overturn.
At least one firefighter was airlifted by helicopter, while others were taken by ambulance to hospitals for treatment. “All of our crews involved are undergoing a formal critical incident stress debriefing at our headquarters right now,” stated Chief Fennessy. He highlighted the emotional toll on fellow firefighters witnessing their colleagues injured in such a manner on the highway.
