In northeastern Wisconsin, a hunter came across the skeletal remains of a 3-year-old boy who went missing in February, as confirmed by the police on Friday. The boy, Elijah Vue, was last seen at his mother’s boyfriend’s home in Two Rivers, a city located about 30 miles southeast of Green Bay. The discovery of the remains was made by a hunter preparing his property in the town of Two Rivers for the upcoming deer season on September 7, according to Two Rivers Police Chief Benjamin Meinnert. A forensic anthropologist from the state crime lab later confirmed that the skeletal remains belonged to Elijah.
Police Chief Meinnert expressed disappointment at the tragic outcome, mentioning that both the family and the community were devastated by the news. Elijah’s mother, Katrina Baur, residing in Wisconsin Dells, had been charged in February with a felony count of being neglectful towards a child and two misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing an officer. She pleaded not guilty to the charges. Similarly, her boyfriend, Jesse Vang, from Two Rivers, faced charges of neglecting a child and also pleaded not guilty.
According to information from a criminal complaint, Baur had entrusted her son to Vang on February 12, with the intention of having Vang teach the boy life lessons. Vang reported Elijah missing to the police on February 20, claiming the boy had disappeared while he took a nap with him in the bedroom. Chief Meinnert disclosed that the boy’s remains were located approximately 3 miles away from where he was last seen.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Elijah’s disappearance will persist, assured Chief Meinnert. Baur’s attorney, Amber Gratz, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Meanwhile, attempts to reach Vang’s attorney, Timothy Hogan, were unsuccessful due to technical difficulties with their office phone on Friday, and no response was received to an email inquiry sent to their general inbox.
