Deonte, who had spina bifida and hydrocephalus, relied on medical devices and constant care that he reportedly did not receive. When authorities responded to a call at the family’s residence on Christmas night, they discovered Deonte in critical condition. Despite being rushed to the hospital, doctors determined that he had likely passed away prior to their arrival, indicating prolonged suffering.
A subsequent investigation revealed 264 unopened bottles of Deonte’s feeding formula in the family home, shedding light on the neglect he endured. Detective Jacqueline Sanchez expressed sorrow over the child’s prolonged pain, attributing it to those entrusted with his care.
