A former prison guard in Alabama has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for collaborating with an inmate to bring methamphetamine into the correctional facility where he was employed, authorities reported on Tuesday.
Henry Guice Jr.’s vehicle was searched by investigators with a canine unit in June 2023 at Stanton Correctional Facility in Elmore County, where they discovered three bags of meth. This discovery led to his arrest and subsequent prosecution, according to federal prosecutor Doug Howard.
Reports have revealed a widespread issue of drug availability and overdoses within Alabama prisons.
Guice, a 46-year-old ex-corrections officer with the Alabama Department of Corrections, admitted to intending to distribute drugs during a plea hearing in May. Brad Elliot Gordon, a 48-year-old inmate at the facility, was charged in June for allegedly collaborating with Guice in the drug trafficking operation. Gordon is set to stand trial in February.
Guice’s attorneys have chosen not to provide any comments regarding the case.
