Enhanced Security Measures Implemented for Brazil’s Inaugural NFL Game in Sao Paulo Amid Players’ Crime Worries

0

The government of Sao Paulo state has announced plans to enhance security measures for the upcoming NFL game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers in Sao Paulo. Concerns were raised by some players about safety in Brazil, given its high rates of gun violence and crime, particularly in metropolitan Sao Paulo where there has been an increase in cellphone thefts.

To ensure the safety of players and fans, hundreds of civilian and military police officers will be deployed for the game. The police will provide escorts for the teams’ buses, from their hotels to the stadium and training grounds. The security operations will be coordinated with U.S. authorities for the historic first NFL match in South America.

The Sao Paulo state government stated that policing will be intensified throughout the week, with officers patrolling streets, avenues near the stadium, public transportation, hotels, and tourist areas. Additionally, trained dogs will be used to detect any potential explosive devices at the stadium before the game, while helicopters and drones will also be deployed for surveillance.

In response to players’ concerns, including Eagles’ Darius Slay and AJ Brown, plans are in place to support safety within the stadium. The Sao Paulo police will establish a station inside the venue to assist women who may be victims of violence during the event. These measures aim to reassure both players and fans for the upcoming game.
