A teacher in New York City was injured on Wednesday after being struck by a bullet to his hand while setting up his classroom for the upcoming school year, according to police reports. The 33-year-old educator was in his sixth-floor classroom at a middle school in the Bronx around midday when the bullet came through a window and grazed his right hand. He was promptly taken to a hospital for medical care.
Fortunately, no students were present in the school building at the time of the incident, as classes are scheduled to commence on Thursday for public schools in New York City. A spokesperson for the city Department of Education addressed the incident, condemning the violence as distressing and unacceptable.
