George Clooney and Brad Pitt were back at the Venice Film Festival for the world premiere of their latest film, “Wolfs.” Before their red carpet appearance, the Hollywood stars discussed reuniting, the rise of streaming services, and Clooney’s New York Times op-ed urging President Joe Biden to not seek reelection.
Clooney expressed admiration for Biden’s selfless decision and emphasized the importance of letting go of power for the greater good. The majority of their conversation, however, revolved around their new film directed by Jon Watts, where they play fixers embroiled in a complex scenario involving a district attorney played by Amy Ryan.
“Wolfs” will have a limited theatrical release starting on Sept. 20 before becoming available on Apple TV+ on Sept. 27 after the streaming service outbid traditional studios and competitors. Clooney disclosed that he and Pitt agreed to reduce their salaries to ensure a theatrical release, even though it will be limited to a few hundred theaters.
Clooney remarked on the evolving landscape of the film industry, acknowledging the importance of streaming platforms. He noted the benefits for actors while acknowledging the ongoing process of adapting to changes in the industry. Producer Jeremy Kliner highlighted their commitment to making films with lasting impact and value.
The long-time collaborators bantered about their ages and the joys of working together. Pitt mentioned the importance of reuniting with people he enjoys, emphasizing the natural chemistry that comes from years of working together. The two actors reminisced about their previous collaboration in the film “Burn After Reading.”
Despite their separate arrivals at the festival, Pitt and his ex-wife Angelina Jolie both attended. Jolie received praise for her performance in another film and then departed for another festival. Pitt and Jolie, who were together for a decade before divorcing, continue to navigate custody and financial issues.
Director Jon Watts, known for the Spider-Man franchise, described “Wolfs” as a return to a more grounded style of filmmaking for him. Unfortunately, he was unable to discuss the film with his stars as he had tested positive for COVID-19.
