North Carolina officials in Burke County discovered that a car fire was started by a children’s book. The fire was ignited by a “button battery” inside the book left in the vehicle, causing a child’s car seat to catch fire on Sunday. The George Hildebran Fire & Rescue Department reported that the family had exited the car before the fire began. Destiny Williams and her daughter, Misty, had returned from church and were inside their house when they noticed smoke coming from their car.
A neighbor managed to extinguish the fire using a garden hose. Following the incident, the fire marshal’s office was contacted to investigate the scene. Pressley Williams, the girl’s father, expressed relief that his family had not been in the car during the fire, realizing the potential dangers of the situation. Authorities suspect that one of the books near the burnt car seat contained a lithium battery, known to be prone to fire if overheated, according to the Burke County Fire Marshal’s Office.
