NFL teams have begun cutting down their rosters in anticipation of the Tuesday deadline. By 4 p.m. Eastern time, teams are required to reduce their 90-player rosters to 53 players. Additionally, each team has the option to add up to 17 players to its practice squad, with one spot reserved for the International Player Pathway Program.
A number of notable players have already been released, with wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster being one of them. Smith-Schuster was initially cut by the New England Patriots on Aug. 9 but later re-signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Another significant cut was third-string quarterback Mike White, who was released by the Miami Dolphins. White had started seven games for the New York Jets during the 2021-22 season.
Other players who have been let go include safety Ronnie Harrison (Colts), linebacker Deion Jones (Bills), running backs Matt Breida (49ers), Joshua Kelley (Giants), and Boston Scott (Rams). Quarterbacks Ben DiNucci (Bills), Matt Corral (Vikings), and Ian Book (Chiefs) were also among those released. Additionally, wide receivers Sterling Shepard (Buccaneers) and Greg Ward (Colts), as well as defensive back Terrell Edmunds (Jaguars), were not retained by their respective teams.
